OMA SpecWorks ARCOM WG specifications include:

  • Identifying and specifying the architectural aspects for OMA SpecWorks specifications in order to support end-to-end interoperability across different devices, network operators, and service providers.
  • Areas such as Messaging, Push-to-talk over Cellular, Presence, Contact Information and Address Book, Media and Data Management, Enhanced Visual Voice Mail and Spam Reporting. With a focus on interoperability among a wide variety of legacy systems and the convergence of those systems with new IP based services and technologies, a goal of ARCOM WG is to enhance the user experience and the operators’ ability to build comprehensive messaging and communications systems.
  • The ARCOM WG has produced high quality specifications through regular collaborations with other standardization bodies, organizations and associations, such as 3GPP/3GPP2, GSMA, IETF and W3C. As a result, many of its specifications have been formally endorsed and are being deployed for commercial services by different network operators, vendors and projects, including the GSMA Rich Communication Suite (RCS) related projects.
  • The ARCOM WG is responsible for the OMA SpecWorks API program and has been actively involved in closing the gap between APIs among GSMA Access, GSMA RCS/RCSe, SCF and 3GPP.

The OMA SpecWorks API Program

The OMA SpecWorks API program provides standardized interfaces to the service infrastructure residing within communication networks and on devices. Focused primarily between the service access layer and generic network capabilities, OMA SpecWorks API specifications allow operators and other service providers to expose device capabilities and network resources in an open and programmable way–to any developer community independent of the development platform. By deploying APIs, fundamental capabilities such as SMS, MMS, Location Services, Payment and other core network assets are now exposed in a standardized way. This reduces development cost and time-to-market for new applications and services, as well as simplifying wider deployment of existing applications and services.
